Playa Conchal

Driving & Parking: Paved roads, no 4x4 required. Grab a bite to eat at Patagonia del Mar and then head over Brasilito Beach. Turn left and walk along the beach, there will be path between some rocks that will open to Playa Conchal.

Playa Grande

Tranquil, eco-friendly beach community in Guanacaste known for world-class surfing and as a major nesting site for endangered leatherback turtles.

Driving & Parking: Paved roads, no 4x4 required. There is a parking lot at the main entrance for ~2,500 CRC or there is parking along the road.

Playa Real

Known to locals as "Bahia de los Pirates" -- this sun-soaked destination just a few minutes northwest of Matapolo, serving as the ideal locale for travelers seeking a quiet environment and laid-back atmosphere. This is one of our favorite beaches, get there early to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee and the sunrise!

This outdoor market in Huacas is less than 5 minutes from the house and offers several varieties of cuisine including pizza, fresh bowls, sushi, and more! Also check out the outdoor shop for local produce, kombucha and coffee.

Adventure

La Leona Waterfall

Take a 2-3 hour guided tour with our favorite local tour guide along the Rio Blanco to a hidden, beautiful, brilliant blue waterfall hidden inside a cave. This active tour takes you through several river crossings, canyons and caves, with a final swim to this beautiful turquoise blue water.

Hot Springs

Go hiking through Rincón de la Vieja national park, where you will walk past boiling mud pots and steaming fumaroles, encountering wildlife sightings like monkeys and toucans, paired with a nice soak in the volcanic hot springs.

Sloth & Wildlife Sanctuary Hike

Bagaces, located north of Villa Selah, is the closest rain forest and features incredible hiking, nature reserves, animal sanctuaries that include sloth and toucan sightings, more hot springs, and stunning views of some of the largest waterfalls in Costa Rica.

Snorkeling

Go snorkeling or take a catamaran tour off the coast of the Guanacaste beaches just minutes from the house.

Mangrove Kayak & Boat Tours

Take a kayak or boat tour in Las Baulas National Marine Park -- a vast protected estuary between Tamarindo and Playa Grande. These tours are highly rated for spotting crocodiles, iguanas, and howler monkeys, as well as over 250 species of birds.

Sunset Cruise

Take a sunset cruise on a catamaran from nearby Flamingo Marina. These 4–5 hour catamaran excursions feature snorkeling, snacks, an open bar, and premier viewing of the Pacific sunset.
